Cruise on Downtown…

TOMS RIVER, NJ, June 30- Remember the good old days of fast cars and Rock n’ Roll? Re-visit those times at the annual Cruisin’ Downtown 2004 events this summer. The second in the series of events is Wednesday, July 14 from 6-9 p.m. along Washington St. in downtown Toms River. This tradition will continue all summer long, the second Wednesday of the month through September.

Free of charge, one can visit with old friends or make new ones, at this annual favorite along Washington and Main Streets. With the assistance of the Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County, and car owners from Ocean and Monmouth counties, more than 150 vintage and specialty cars, as well as motorcycles line the streets for viewing. A combination of fine automobiles along with live entertainment by The Extra’s, a visit from Ray Kaminski as “Elvis”, and the Oldies 100 Cruise Crew, makes for a fun evening for the entire family.

“Our first Cruisin’ Downtown this year was a great success. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of both vehicles and attendees,” explains TRBID Chairman Frank Capone. “We are looking forward to an even better July, still filled with fun and great vehicles for the entire family,” adds Capone.

Motorcycles lined Main Street and vintage and specialty cars lined all of Washington Street as well as the side streets! For the first time this year, the Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County awarded Best of Show awards to three vehicles and one motorcycle. The winners included a 1978 Dodge Truck from Larry Subetts, a 1935 Ford Phaeton by Lew Bond, a 1937 Ford Slant-back by Bill French and the motorcycle winner was a 1999 Boss Hoss by Stan Bortnowski.

Media sponsor WJRZ- Oldies 100 and the Oldies 100’s Cruise Crew will be on hand with great music and giveaways. Sponsors include Downs Ford of Toms River, Capone’s Gourmet Pizza, Good Friend Electric, Harley Davidson of Ocean County and Silver Bay Car Wash.
