Classic Sights And Sounds Highlight Cruisin' DowntownFor Immediate Release: June 30, 2009 |
Toms River, NJ ... Come and enjoy the sights and sounds of classic cars, motorcycles and the music of Four Man Trio at Cruisin' Downtown on Wednesday, July 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. The monthly event is held on Washington Street in Toms River and is presented by Downtown Toms River and the Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County. One of the few vintage auto shows that offers live musical entertainment, the ever-popular "Cruisin' Downtown" takes place the second Wednesday of each month through September, and is free and open to public. Restaurants and shops will be open and live entertainment will be featured. Four Man Trio is a New Jersey based band that has been playing on the metropolitan music scene for the past 30 years. Their vocal harmonies blend together perfectly as they perform hits from the '50's through '80's. DJ Dave and Elvis impersonator Ray Kaminski will be on hand to keep the tunes rolling. Street vendors, contests, prizes and giveaways round out the event and offer something for everyone. According to Michael Redpath, Executive Director of Downtown Toms River, "We are working hard to maximize every bit of space we have available for this event so we accommodate as many vehicles as possible. Last month, despite the threat of rain, people came out and really had a great time dancing to the music and enjoying the atmosphere. Hopefully this month the weather will cooperate and we'll have another great crowd." Owners with vintage automobile models dating prior to 1984 are eligible to participate. A dash plaque can be obtained by registering at the Downtown Toms River event booth on the corner of Washington Street and Court House Lane. Registration is free. Best of Show trophies are presented by the Vintage Auto Club to the top three automobiles at each "Cruisin' Downtown" event. Owners displaying cars should report to Hadley Avenue, off Hooper Avenue, between 4 and 5 p.m., facing south to Washington Street. Representatives from the Vintage Auto Club will be on hand to direct participants. For motorcycle enthusiasts and proud owners, motorcycles will be displayed on Main, Washington and Hyers Streets. Members of the Trinity Motorcycle Ministry will be available at the motorcycle registration table, which will be located on Main Street near Anthony's Restaurant, to direct parking. "Cruisin Downtown" is sponsored by Capone's Gourmet Pizza & Restaurant, United Water Toms River, Comcast, New Jersey Natural Gas, Mr. Alan's Florist, Shore Photographers, Extra Space Storage, and radio stations WJRZ and the WRAT. Created to encourage tourism and attract area residents to the historic business district of Toms River, "Cruisin' Downtown" is among several special events scheduled throughout the year by Downtown Toms River. Other events include the 7th Annual New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival, July 18; the 4th annual Pizza, Pasta, Pastry festival, September 26 and the Farmers' Market on Wednesdays from June 10 through October 28. Returning to the event calendar this year is the Concerts in the Park series. The concerts are held at Huddy Park and will continue on July 25, and August 22.
