TOWNSHIP OF TOMS RIVER On behalf of the Toms River Veteran’s Commission, Mayor Thomas F. Kelaher is encouraging residents to attend the upcoming Ocean County Veterans Day Wednesday, November 11.

“I encourage all residents to come out and express their thanks to veterans, who have served this country selflessly so Americans may be blessed with freedom, said Mayor Kelaher.

Wednesday morning, November 11, 2009 the parade, featuring veterans’ organizations, military groups and military support and civic organizations, will kick off at 9:30 a.m. from the Toms River Shopping Center, located on Route 37 and precede south on Main Street (Route 166) and east onto Washington Street.

Following the parade, a commemorative salute will be held at the Toms River Township Town Hall, 33 Washington St., and will commence on the 11th hour, at the 11th minute on the 11th day of November, signifying the end of World War I, originally known as Armistice Day.

“These ceremonies are perfect for families to come out and salute our veterans to set the example for our children that our freedoms are preserved through the devotion of our military,” said Bob Larned, chair of the Toms River Veteran’s Commission. “Let us thank our veterans today and every day and honor those who have served or are serving in any military division to protect our freedoms.”
