Toms River, NJ...Downtown Toms River proudly opens the 2010 Farmers Market on Wednesday, June 9 in Huddy Park.  The market is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Wednesday.  This year, the first Wednesday of each month will celebrate a particular Jersey Fresh fruit, kicking off with luscious Jersey Fresh strawberries on June 9th.  As a part of the festivities, there will be a free drawing for a basket of items including strawberries, strawberry products, and other items from the vendors.

The market will be held rain or shine every Wednesday through October 27th in Huddy Park, located at the intersection of Main and Water streets in Toms River.  Metered parking is available on the lower level of the parking deck across from Huddy Park.

Despite all the development and pressure on farming, New Jersey is still the"Garden State".  Because of the state's long growing season and moderate temperatures, farmers here are able to grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, providing visitors to the Farmers Market a wide selection of fresh, locally grown produce.  Beautiful locally grown bedding plants, flowers, and hanging baskets will also be on sale.

Participating farmers include: DeWolf's Farm, E.R. & Son Organic Farm, Farmer Al's Market, Fresh Pik Farms, Krowicki's Farm Market, and Cicconi Farms, Among the wide assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, the market will also display many other homemade products. New to the market is Jacky's Jams and Jellies; Tomslitehouse Soy Candles, selling100% natural, hand-poured soy candles; and Veggie Brothers, offering vegan frozen entrees and cookies.

Returning favorites include Lithuanian Bakery with their huge assortment of bakery products including bread, rolls, muffins, cakes, pies, danish, strudels, and more; PickleLicious, offering pickles, pickled-products, and olives;  Nuts For You offering a large selection of peanuts, nuts, candy, and snow cones; Herbertsville Honey Company with their local honey, handcrafted soaps, skin creams, and lip balms; High Mountain Foods will
return with their delicious frozen ravioli, pasta, frozen meats, chicken, fish, fresh mozzarella & cheeses, and hummus; and Italian Treasures will be selling regular and stuffed breads, cheeses, roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes.

The Farmers Market is presented by Downtown Toms River and is sponsored by Comcast, New Jersey Natural Gas, United Water Toms River, Capone's Gourmet Pizza & Restaurant, Extra Space Storage, Allen Consulting, and radio stations Magic 100.1 WJRZ and The WRAT.  For further information on all of Toms River's summer events visit the website, www.downtowntomsriver.com <http://www.downtowntomsriver.com/>  or call
