Toms River, NJ ... One more time before the season ends, classic and vintage cars will fill the streets of Downtown Toms River for Cruisin' Downtown on Wednesday, September 8th.  The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Washington Street in Downtown Toms River.  "Cruisin' Downtown" takes place the second Wednesday of each month, May through September, and presents live musical entertainment at each event.

Union Groove is the featured band on September 8th; they'll be set up in front of the Library and will keep everyone rocking with their fabulous soul and classic rock music. DJ Dave will also be on hand to keep the tunes rolling in between sets for people dancing in the street.  Downtown restaurants and shops will be open for business, with vendors, contests, prizes and giveaways adding something for everyone.

Cruisin' Downtown is a much anticipated event in Downtown Toms River, a family friendly night that people really look forward to.  At the August Cruisin' event, nearly two hundred and fifty cars were parked along Washington Street, from Hooper Avenue all the way to Main Street, along with dozens of proudly displayed motorcycles that filled Main and Hyers Street. Downtown Toms River Chairman Frank Capone says "It's amazing.  We get vehicles on display from all over Ocean County and beyond, and people just love to come out and look at all the classic vehicles and marvel at how they’ve been restored.  People really enjoy this event, especially since we have great live bands."

The monthly display of vintage cars, including 20th century classics, customized hot rods, and motorcycles is free to attend and is presented by Downtown Toms River and the Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County.  Owners with vintage automobile models dating prior to 1985 are eligible to participate and must register at the Downtown Toms River event booth on the corner of Washington Street and Court House Lane to obtain a dash plaque and compete for a trophy.  Best of Show trophies are presented by the Vintage Auto Club to the top three automobiles at each "Cruisin' Downtown" event. Owners displaying cars should report to Hadley Avenue, off Hooper Avenue, between 4 and 5 p.m., facing south to Washington Street.  Registration is free; participating vehicles will be permitted to park until 6 p.m. or until the street is filled.  Representatives from the Vintage Auto Club will be onhand to direct participants.
For motorcycle enthusiasts and proud owners, members of the Trinity Motorcycle Ministry will be available at the motorcycle registration table on the corner of Main and Washington Streets to direct motorcycle parking on Main and Hyers Street.  Two trophies will be awarded to owners of prized motorcycles.

"Cruisin Downtown" is sponsored by Capone's Gourmet Pizza &Restaurant, United Water Toms River, Comcast, New Jersey Natural Gas, Extra Space Storage, Allen Consulting and radio stations Magic 100.1 and the WRAT.

Created to encourage tourism and attract area residents to the historic business district of Toms River, "Cruisin' Downtown" is among several special events scheduled throughout the year by Downtown Toms River.  Other events include the 5th annual Pizza, Pasta, Pastry Festival, September 25and the Farmers Market every Wednesday through October 27.  The final Concerts in the Park event will take place at Huddy Park on August 28 and features The Soul Project.  Anyone interested in volunteering with these events can call 732-341-8738.
